Alaa Seoudy is a documentary film director, editor, and cinematographer from Egypt, now based in New York City. His work is grounded in character-driven, cinéma vérité storytelling, with a focus on social justice and humanitarian narratives.
He began his career as an assistant editor on Utica: The Last Refuge (2019), the award winning documentary that had its premiere at the DCTV Firehouse Cinema. The film screened at the Palm Springs International Film Festival and is now available on Amazon Prime.
Alaa later co-edited a short documentary with UNICEF documenting efforts to vaccinate children against polio in emergency contexts, a project that received multiple awards for its urgent and human-centered perspective. He has also collaborated with director Seth Fein on a short documentary essay All Is Not Lost ∞ Noguchi near Milton in Queens supported by a grant from the Center for the Humanities at the CUNY Graduate Center.
He holds a B.F.A. in Film - concentration in Documentary Filmmaking from Brooklyn College, where he thesis project was part of the DOC NYC U.
